Frank Schnurrer
Frank (Shorty) Schnurrer, 60, proprietor of Shorty's Place at 313 N. Minnesota, died suddenly at work Thursday morning. He lived at 106 N. Jefferson.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Holy Trinity Cathedral with burial in the Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation at Minnesota Valley Funeral Chapel is 3 to 9 p.m. today and Saturday until the time of the service.
Parish rosary will be 7:30 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.
He was born May 9, 1909, in Pierz to Mr. and Mrs. Matt Schnurrrer. He was married May 28, 1935, to Elvira Kaping at the Cathedral here.
Surviving are the wife and a son, Roger, New Ulm. Also surviving are six sisters and two brothers: Mrs. Matt Brousen and Mrs. Henry Brousen of Pierz; Mrs. William Weber and William Schnurrer of Sleepy Eye; Mrs. Jerome Scyska of Jessup, Iowa; Mrs. Robert Johnson and Mrs. Walter Becker of St. Cloud; Reinhard Schnurrer of Minneapolis.
Schnurrer lived in South Dakota a few years. He came to New Ulm in 1930, working for Wilfahrt Bros. in the tire department. Schnurrer and Alvin Fritsche went into partnership in the Golden Rule dance hall and tavern in Klossner. In 1940, he started his own tavern, Shorty's place, in New Ulm. The tavern was located at 317 N. Minnesota until two years ago when Shorty moved the business a few doors south into the former Gag Sheet Metal building.
