John H. Smith.
John H. (Jack) Smith, 65, of 411 S. Moore St., died at the St. Joseph Hospital Monday at 9:30 p.m. following an illness of several weeks.
He was a retired Ottumwa postal carrier.
He was the son of A.O. and Katie Hutchison Smith, born in Ottumwa, June 17, 1904, and a lifetime resident here.
He served in both the Army and the Marine Corps prior to World War II. He was a member of the Gospel Chapel and the local Elks Lodge.
He was married to Nellie M. Alford on May 16, 1930, in Ottumwa. She died on Feb. 1, 1964. Surviving are one son, John P. Smith of Tehachapi, Calif.; one daughter, Mrs. Dorothy L. Tharp of Fort Worth, Tex.; and three grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by one brother, David, and his parents.
Funeral services are pending at the Johnson Funeral Chapel.

Funeral services for John H. (Jack) Smith, 65, of 411 S. Moore St., who died Monday at 9:30 p.m. at St. Joseph Hospital, will be held Thursday at 3 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Chapel with J. Elbert Matthews of the Gospel Chapel officiating. Burial in Shaul Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be James Davidsaver, Fritz Wingate, John Quinn, Fred Genochio, Gordon McKelvey and Pearl Ludwick. The casket will be closed at the beginning of the service.
